Rachel Huber

Rachel Huber (b. 1970) joined NIAD’s Virtual Studio in 2021 as a poet, and has since added “visual artist” to her professional identity. Her studio practice includes letterpress prints, symbol and glyph drawings, animal sculptures, and abstract tufted textiles. In each creative endeavor, Huber aims to communicate intense emotional states like love and depression. She frequently pays homage to her cherished dog Daisy and other pets from the past, explaining, “Dogs have a purpose in life. I'm making my work mostly about cute little dogs, up close and personal.” 

Huber’s compassion and dark humor translates across media, and has caught the attention of fellow artists and guest curators alike. Several of her letterpress poems were selected for the group exhibition Into the Brightness at the Oakland Museum of California, and more recently featured in Now Presenting in the Annex Gallery at NIAD.
