Artist Bio

Dre’An Cox (b. 1994) is a Bay Area artist who joined NIAD Art Center in 2016. His practice incorporates printmaking, wood sculpture, and painting and drawing. Many works feature potent symbols from fantasy films and video games where heroes and villains are locked in an eternal struggle of good versus evil. Cox draws parallels between these animated characters and historical figures, creating politically-charged images that question and critique authority.

Dre’An Cox’s work has been selected for numerous shows in the Main Gallery at NIAD Art Center, and featured in major group exhibitions including Into the Brightness at the Oakland Museum of California, and Everyday Heroes at Arts of Life, Chicago, IL.
