Celebrating Sara Malpass

About the Exhibition

Honoring the life and legacy of the "word woman" - NIAD artist Sara Malpass, who spent nearly 30 years transforming words into art.

Sara was the artist behind NIAD's iconic "I Like Art" buttons. And take a look at our IG profile picture - that's Sara!

Through her daily lists, she meticulously gathered language from her readings and interests, weaving together words, syllables, and ideas into a living archive of thought.

Her handwritten texts and ceramic sculptures were more than words—they were poetry, rhythm, and visual expression, a reflection of her unique way of seeing the world. Sara’s presence at NIAD and her dedication to her craft will be deeply missed, but her work continues to inspire.

Remembering Sara

"Sending love to her family, her NIAD family and everyone else in her life. I have her beautiful 'Soup' hanging above our stove."

"My heart goes out to her friends & family. I love Sara’s work. I have a cherished plate: 'Money Ideal House Wagon Cats'"

"'I Like Art'. It was a gift meeting Sara and I wore her t-shirt with pride."
