Transforming Space features sixteen NIAD artists’ explorations of space. This exhibition showcases artists using various media, including painting, drawing, digital art, mixed media, ceramics, and sculpture. Transforming Space reveals how NIAD artists challenge representations of place–in their hands, maps turn into emotional landscapes, familiar spaces become dreamlike scenes filled with color, landscapes evolve into a collection of thoughts, and the laws of gravity are defied as heavy objects are effortlessly lifted into the air.
Each artist, with a unique visual language, contributes to this exhibition with a new perspective of shared spaces and offers a creative reimagining of the world we inhabit and the possibilities it holds. Through freedom of creative expression, spontaneity or repetition, rerouting existing art and images through mark-making, or working with their own specific iconography, they collectively encourage us to step outside the spaces we inhabit and imagine the world transformed.
