Panel Discussion at MoMA // "On Marlon Mullen and Progressive Art Studios"

In celebration of Marlon Mullen’s first solo museum exhibition, Projects: Marlon Mullen, join artist Sable Elyse Smith, White Columns director Matthew Higgs, and Disparate Minds founders Tim Ortiz and Andreana Donahue for an exploration of his practice and the vital work of progressive art studios. The conversation will be moderated by Ann Temkin, The Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art.

Mullen takes the covers of art books and magazines, such as Art in America and Artforum, transforming them into vibrant paintings. For nearly 40 years, Mullen has been based at the NIAD Art Center, a progressive art studio for artists with developmental disabilities in his native Richmond, California. Projects: Marlon Mullen presents a selection of the artist’s paintings from the past decade.

This event is free. RSVP is required.
