Contemporary Women of Abstraction

NIAD artists Shantae Robinson and Sylvia Fragoso are included in Contemporary Women of Abstraction at Paul Thiebaud Gallery in San Francisco. The exhibition gathers paintings, sculpture, and ceramics by sixteen artists who work in or have ties to the Bay Area — three generations of women whose practices carry abstraction forward from its post-war Bay Area roots into the present. The work moves through environmental concern, geometric composition, pattern-making, and explorations of the body, motherhood, and the feminist perspective. Robinson and Fragoso show alongside Donna Brookman, Linda Fleming, Nancy Genn, Rebekah Goldstein, Julia Goodman, Hughen/Starkweather, Mary Ijichi, Grace Munakata, Sono Osato, Irène Pijoan, Cornelia Schulz, Laura Van Duren, Andrea Way, and Karla Wozniak.

On view July 11 – September 12, 2026 at Paul Thiebaud Gallery, 645 Chestnut Street, San Francisco. Gallery hours Tuesday–Saturday, 10 AM – 6 PM.
