“The show began as I was thinking about those stories of orcas that have been inexplicably linked to the destruction and sinking of boats across the Mediterranean. Perhaps this fascination stems from the unpredictability and raw defiance embodied by these aquatic mammals – baffling occurrences that stand in heavy contrast to humans’ ever-quickening technological advancements and rapid domestication and degradation of our shared environment. As an exhibition, BEASTIES ruminates on artists and artworks that mirror the spirit of these orcas, eschewing docile natures and tame-ability for wildness and unknowability.”

About Rebecca Camacho Presents
Rebecca Camacho Presents is a space for contemporary art located adjacent to the bustle of San Francisco’s downtown at 794 Sutter Street. Founded in 2019, the nascent gallery draws on Camacho’s decades of experience working alongside emerging artists, providing a platform for, and nurturing the development of rising artistic practices.
Housed in an unassuming yet architecturally nuanced space emblematic of the surrounding city, Rebecca Camacho Presents spotlights national and international talent as well as local artists, bringing a diverse and unique contemporary and historical program to the Bay Area arts community. Through ambitious rotating exhibitions, booths at leading art fairs, public programming, and community engagement both locally and abroad, the gallery’s imprint is far greater than its boutique scale.
Committed to expanding and supporting arts beyond the gallery structure, Rebecca Camacho spent two years as a Public Art Project Manager at the San Francisco Arts Commission and continues to advocate for public art via both private and civic funding. Camacho served on the Southern Exposure Board of Directors from 2015 through 2021, including 3 years as Board President, and remains active on SoEx’s auction committee. She currently serves on the Headlands Center for the Arts Advancement Committee and is a member of the New Art Dealers Alliance.
