Community Ignition: Partnership and Artmaking in the Disability Arts Community

NIAD artists Shawn Sanders and Jonathan Velazquez are included in Community Ignition: Partnership and Artmaking in the Disability Arts Community at NUMU in Los Gatos. The exhibition highlights the Disability Arts Community as a way to reveal how art can be created: in communities, through conversation and support, through interdependence, and within systems of care. Where museums have typically separated work by disabled artists from their peers, Community Ignition disrupts that expectation, acknowledging that identity is intersectional and that creativity is informed by an artist's lived experience.
