NIAD’s Communications & Exhibitions Internships are aimed at providing an educational experience for individuals who are curious and excited about pursuing a career in the arts, disability services, and communications fields.

About NIAD Art Center

Now in its 41st year, NIAD Art Center promotes creative expression, independence, dignity, and community integration for adult artists with disabilities. NIAD provides a Virtual and Richmond-based studio and gallery space, programmed by and with NIAD artists. NIAD redefines contemporary art as an inclusive, accessible place for all.

NIAD does its work at the intersection of many exciting worlds. We partner with museums and galleries; disability justice activists; Richmond non-profits and neighbors; local, national and international curators and artists; NIAD artists’ families and caregivers; and anyone who comes through our doors.

About NIAD Internships

NIAD Communications & Exhibitions Interns engage with these audiences directly, sharpening existing skills in a real-world context and building new capabilities in a supportive, inclusive environment. By carrying out short and long-term projects, daily tasks and special initiatives, our interns further NIAD’s mission and become lasting members of our joyful community.

Conditions

Fall start date is flexible.

Submit cover letter and resume/CV to gallery@niadart.org.

This is a 6-8 hour per week paid internship with flexible hours, across 2-3 days per week, for a four month duration. The majority of working hours will be spent on site, with some flexibility for remote work. Support for occasional weekend receptions and events is expected. We offer a $2500 stipend.

Due to day program licensing requirements, applicants must be at least 19 years old.

If you require any accommodations in order to most effectively participate in the application process, please email gallery@niadart.org or call 510 620 0290.

NIAD supports inclusivity and visibility in all areas of our working practices and spaces and wants to make sure that opportunities are accessible in all ways and that all voices are truly heard and contribute to our future. We actively encourage individuals from marginalized groups to apply, in particular those from traditionally under-represented groups, e.g., people with disabilities, BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ candidates.
