This Week’s Update From Our Executive Director//

It might seem like getting tablets to artists is a straightforward materials project – we receive the equipment, we deliver it to where it needs to go.

But this week, I’m reflecting on the persistence of NIAD’s (new!) Online Services Team, and the work it’s taken to place tech tools in our artists’ hands today.

Comprising staff from nearly all of NIAD’s program and admin areas, Online Services has made sure that despite scarce supplies, unpredictable shipping, and the challenges of working while isolated, artists are receiving:

• not only tablets, but a zine on how to use them;

• not only equipment, but a dedicated NIAD staff contact experienced in working with each artist/home;

• not only tools, but resources and information to access affordable internet and stay safe online.

As a result, nine NIAD artists who have been telephoning in to online meetings, practice circles, and one-to-one meetings with studio facilitators and staff will be able access to the internet – and NIAD’s Virtual Studio – today.

But there’s always more we can do to close the digital divide. To support the Online Services Team and continue providing tech tools and resources, donate now to NIAD’s Mobile Art Fund. Your contributions ensure equitable access to NIAD’s Virtual Studio for all of our artists – keeping our community together.

We couldn’t be more thankful.

Yours in community,

Amanda Eicher, Executive Director NIAD Art Center
