  Blevens, Lisa
Lisa Blevens creates elegant drawings, paintings, prints and fabric art, all patterned with color in a myriad of small shapes-hearts, flowers, circles, triangles and stripes. Some of her art suggest radiating stars or suns or feature fanciful butterflies, pinwheels or clown faces. Jeremy Burleson literally finds his artistic inspiration from his own life experiences. Having spent much of his time in hospitals as a child, Burleson's art reflects his fascination for all things medical-hospital scenes, medical equipment, syringes and medicine bottles. Burleson also loves to paint his childhood joys like jellybeans and lollypops.

Deatra Colbert's favorite subjects for her artwork are the athlete and the television actor. One does not need to be a fan to enjoy her fanciful paintings, drawings and prints. Her art is strewn and garlanded with flowers, small arbitrary forms and wavy lines with words and names associated with sports stars or TV actors.

Emanuel Diaz came to the United States from El Salvador with his family in 1998 when he was twenty years old. A personable young man, Diaz's zest and talent for art brought him recognition soon after he came to the NIAD Art Center in 2002. more...
  Englin, Metrius
Metrius Englin brings a strong, sure line and color to her artwork. Drawing is simply doing what has come naturally to her since she was a young child growing up in a series of foster homes. She began taking art seriously when she came to NIAD in 1995 at age 22.

  Fragoso, Sylvia
Sylvia Fragoso appeared on a Bay Area TV show in 1992 and was asked if she was a good artist. "I am. Yes, I am," she responded. As well she might. Ms. Fragoso's artwork has been exhibited in Miyazaki, Japan and Shanghai, China; at the Webb and Parsons Gallery in Vermont; Very Special Art Gallery in Palm Beach; Community College of Southern Nevada; in NIAD's traveling exhibit, The Creative Spirit; and at the Berlex Biosciences Corporate Offices in Richmond, CA.

  Griffin, Felecia
Felecia Griffin works freely in various arts: printmaking, painting, collage, ceramic sculpture, textiles and jewelry. Her monoprints have the gestured quality of drip painting-loose and graceful. Other prints are patterned with small circles or identical strips that are actually outlines of popsicle sticks, which she collects.

Shana Harper came to NIAD in January 2005. In the short time
she has spent at NIAD Ms. Harper has been very productive producing jewelry, paintings, prints, and beautiful hand made scarves. Her two dimensional work has been highly influenced by Vincent Van Gogh and her choice of subject matter ranges from bucolic natural phenomenon to portraits and interior scenes. more...

Tammy Harper likes to “paint colors,” regardless of the medium. Some paintings are purely abstract forms on paper with sensuous brushstrokes that show textures and color.  Other paintings and drawings depict her continuous passion for music, particularly the Motown genre of the 60’s and 70’s.

  Harris, Peter
Peter Harris' love of carving transcends through his printmaking as his wooden plates are cut with lively energy. His plates, also works of art, resemble Asian-style landscapes. From the printed images of these plates, aerial landscapes of forests and mountains are depicted.

  Harris, Willie
Willie Harris' multitude of sprightly ink drawings and prints of a wide-eyed elfin figure with outstretched arms, ears and hair are self-portraits of the artist. A second but less common theme is of his home. The tension between his fine black lines and dense clusters of scribblings energizes these and other Harris artwork.

For Harry Ingram, the arm and hand movement are important elements, which are captured in his paintings. The use of bold and explosive color with broad, small brush strokes of paint swirl, curve and loop over the page into a consistent pattern fully covering the paper. Lacee King has been working at NIAD for years and creating art is her favorite activity. "I make art for fun, to calm my nerves, to decorate my home, and for a sense of accomplishment." Although she was born blind this does not impede her ability to transform paper or fabric into wonderful creations.

Martha Lane likes to draw and paint houses and people in bright colors. He cityscapes are full of tall buildings, small people, and an occasional plane or balloon in the sky. Her portraits show oversized heads with small facial features and eyes drawn wide apart. It is the innocence of her artistic style that is most appealing to collectors.

All of Sara Malpass' work expresses the delicacy and acuity of her own physical presence. She came to the NIAD Art Center in 1994 at the age of twenty-six and has grown in many directions since those early years.

Jean McElvane is a talented and skilled artist whose work ranges in style from realism to abstract, in scale from miniature to life-size, and her choice of media include clay, pastels, and paint. Marlon Mullen is described as a "painter's painter." His subject, regardless of what form it takes, seems to be the paint itself. He enjoys the process of mixing the paint and applying it. Mullen puts his whole body behind each brush stroke. At times, he seems to be almost dancing to an inner rhythm.

Rosita Pardo paints and sculpts figures in the naïve or folk art tradition, drawing from sources as diverse as the Bible, early American Indian lore, the boxing and entertainment worlds, and most recently, the Egyptian and Medieval periods.   Pedemonte, Tony
Tony Pedemonte has been making art at NIAD since October of 2004. Typically a man of few words, Tony chooses to work in relative solitude in the studio when creating paintings, drawings, and sculpture. Recently, Tony has been spending most of his time in the ceramics department at NIAD where he has been vigorously working on a series of sculptures resembling functional forms such as a coffee cup or pitcher.

Kevin Randolph's art often resonates with the translucent quality of layered colors. Overlapping veils of color seem to float beneath the surface of his collage prints. In his linoleum-cut prints, a dark ground imparts a depth to his surface colors. He achieves a similar effect by sometimes using colored paper for his color pencil or pastel drawings.

  Rogers, Angela
Angela Rogers uses a wheelchair and has the free use of one arm. She paints, draws, cuts linoleum prints and sculpts with papier-mâché and clay. Her painting has developed from whimsical, childlike depictions of human figures and faces to vivid abstractions composed of swirls and waves of colors that seem at play with each other.

  Sutton, Michael
Michael Sutton is legally blind but not to color. Whether in tempera, pastels or pencil, his circular, vertical and diagonal strokes lay on colors in clouds and sprays that light up the paper. Even more, he enjoys clay modeling. For despite his poor vision, he can know through his hands the reality of the forms he wants to create.

When Beverly Trieber took up art at age 65, he made up for lost time. Working with NIAD's staff he has created stunning abstract collages, prints and painted constructions made from all manner of found objects. Some of the materials he uses are scraps of printed fabric, yarn, textured paper, cardboard, magazines, newspaper pages, and other recyclables.

Vincent Villanueva's artistic style stems from his musical personality-he can be seen moving, swaying, and speaking in rhythm. His art is free, airy, and energetic with an emphasis on brush strokes that swing from side to side.
