Martha Lane enjoyed drawing and painting houses and people in bright colors.
Her cityscapes were full of tall buildings, small people, planes, and balloons in the sky. Her portraits feature oversized heads with small
facial features and eyes drawn wide apart resulting in a sense of innocence often cited as the most appealing characteristic of her work by collectors.
Lane started making art at age 26 in 1993 when she came to NIAD. Two years later,
her art was selected for a t-shirt design for the 1995 AIDS Walk sponsored by
Citibank. One of her linoleum prints was exhibited at Berlex Biosciences headquarters in Richmond in 1997, and she was in NIAD's 2005 exhibit, A Kuumba Visit to NIAD.
