Felecia Griffin works freely in various arts:
printmaking, painting, collage, ceramic sculpture, textiles and jewelry.
Her monoprints have the gestured quality of drip painting-loose and graceful.
Other prints are patterned with small circles or identical strips that are
actually outlines of popsicle sticks, which she collects. Her collages are
fashioned with geometric cardboard shapes, scraps of tissue paper, fabrics,
or printed pages with focus always on the colors. In textiles, she has
demonstrated that a simple motif and the right colors can become a beautiful
design. She has woven rugs in multi-colored stripes with tweedy textures.
In quilting, Felecia chooses her colors, dyes her fabrics, cuts the patches,
assembles the shapes, and sews them together on the machine.
Selected for John F. Kennedy University's "The Dreaming Mind : The Conscious Mind"
exhibit is Ms. Griffin's painting entitled, "Streamers and Fireworks." This work
shows Griffin's usual free-formed style with her use of color and loose brush
strokes.
Griffin began at NIAD at age 22 in 1985. Her work has been exhibited in Zhoushan,
China; at the Intuit Gallery, Chicago; in a "Print California" show in Claremont,
CA; at the Richmond Art Center in Richmond, CA; and other bay area sites as well
as in NIAD's gallery.
