Emanuel Diaz came to the United States from El Salvador with his family in 1998 when he was twenty years old. A personable young man, Diaz's zest and talent for art brought him recognition soon after he came to the NIAD Art Center in 2002.

Diaz worked on his own, mainly using figurative and representational techniques for the main emphasis of his work, whether in painting, drawing or ceramics. He was extremely interested in the contemporary form of comic books and graphic novels to the extent that he planned on creating one himself. As a result, he finished a number of paintings depicting famous figures such as Spider Man and celebrities from film and music. He had many brilliant ideas for stories and contexts into which to put his drawings. His work was technically adept and beautifully rendered in almost photographic detail.

Diaz's work demonstrated skills that seemed to go far beyond his age and training, and his artwork was displayed in most of the exhibits at the Florence Ludins- Katz Gallery.
