When Beverly Trieber took up art at age 65, he made up for lost time.
Working with NIAD's staff he has created stunning abstract collages,
prints and painted constructions made from all manner of found objects.
Some of the materials he uses are scraps of printed fabric, yarn, textured
paper, cardboard, magazines, newspaper pages, and other recyclables.
Trieber came to NIAD in 1986 after being institutionalized for developmental
disabilities for most of his life. He now lives in a board and care home in
Richmond and likes attending church and walking around town to chat with his
friends, for he is especially sociable. He also enjoys a discussion or two
about our current California Governor.
"Bubba" wears hats of various vintages and collects all manner of display and
advertising buttons, which he pins in quantity to his clothing.
The effect is rather like a walking collage.
Trieber's work has sold well to collectors, including Marwais Steel and
Kaiser Permanente. His work has been shown in numerous exhibits both here
and abroad and was recently exhibited in April 2005 at "The Amazing World of
NIAD Art Center" in San Francisco's Concourse Gallery.
